Business/Commercial TVs and Displays

There is a wide range of choice when it comes to selecting the right display for your business, school, university, hospital or event space. But not all of them are “televisions” and if they are there is a good chance that you’ll immediately void its warranty by installing it where you shouldn’t. At VideoCentric we help you select the right one, supply it, install it and provide support options as appropriate. Lets start by defining the differences in layperson’s language. If you want the techo speak, or a quote, talk to us, email us or send in a contact us request.

Business or Commercial TV

Generally higher brightness and contrast ratio than consumer equivalent but still with TV Tuner, not always with loudspeakers.

Aimed at B2B market and SMEs in particular where business and sports channels may be required in addition to videoconferencing output.

Warranty is for business, education & organisational installation, often 2-3 years advance swap-out via courier.

Hospitality TV, Hotel TV

Similar to Business TV with TV tuner but nearly always with loudspeakers.

Extra features for optional control of channels by hotel administration, welcoming guests on arrival etc. Often used in business premises.

A display with low lag, high refresh and fast response, often with adaptive synchronisation.

Usually small in size (ie up to 24”) and without loudspeakers or TV tuner. Best for interactive gaming and to accompany tower PCs and mini-PC’s/NUCs etc at the desktop .

Warranty generally differs per manufacturer depending on their residential vs business focus.

Professional Display

Similar to a Computer Monitor but bigger. Typically 43” to 110”, usually without TV-tuner or loudspeakers.

Promoted with longer operational hours (eg 16×7 or 24×7) these displays are typically used in railway stations, fast food restaurants, bars and business foyer areas etc without voiding warranty.

Warranty is for business, education & organisational installation, usually 3 years advance swap-out via courier, sometimes with on-site de/re-installation, extendable to 5 years or even 8 years in some cases.

Interactive Touch Display or Touch Screen

Similar to a computer monitor or professional display but touch sensitive for the control of applications running on an attached PC.

Often only 8”-12” when used in tabletop applications or as videoconferencing controllers they are typically connected over USB or LAN to the host PC. They can also be around 24” when used in a kiosk or typically up to 65” when part of an interactive wall display.

Without TV-tuner or loudspeakers their usage is generally limited to control only.

As a form of professional display, warranty is for business, education & organisational installation, usually 3 years advance swap-out via courier for smaller units and on-site de/re-installation for larger ones.

Room Booking Panel

A form of small touch screen but usually with an illuminated surround to illustrate the status of a meeting room, typically green available, red busy.

The manufacturer and styling tends to vary depending on preference of the booking system software provider, eg GoBright, Yealink, Evoko, Logitech and warranties differ accordingly.

Interactive Whiteboarding Display or Smart Board

A form of Interactive Touch Display but with the addition of in-built whiteboarding application running on an inbuilt Android processor so that it may be used in lieu of a drywipe board, blackboard or chalk board without the need to necessarily attach a PC.

Often with HDMI output, it can be used to feed the content input of a videoconferencing system so that a lecturer, teacher, trainer can share previously written whiteboard content with far-end VC participants when required.

Usually 65”, 75” or 86” they form the basis for presentation & collaboration in many classrooms, hospital MDT room, business training rooms and more.

As a form of professional display, warranty is for business, education & organisational installation, usually 3-5 years advance swap-out or de/re-installation.

Interactive Meeting Board

A form of Interactive Whiteboarding Display but with built-in videoconferencing camera, microphone/s and loudspeakers.

Usually running on an in-built Android processor, Microsoft Teams Room, Zoom Room, Webex Room or Google Meet applications are pre-configured for instant access.

Usually 65”, 75” or 86” and often mounted on rollabout stands, their plug-and-play form factor makes them ideal for sharing between multiple classrooms, training rooms, meeting rooms as required.

Depending on manufacturer, warranty is often limited if an optional support contract is not subscribed to giving software upgrades and updates, advance hardware swap-out and/or on-site engineer. Best purchased from professional VC installation company and not through online dealer.

Video Wall

Multiple identical monitors all tiled together in 2×2, 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 matrix with narrow bezels to minimise the gap between active display areas.

Special mountings are required to ensure precision installation and servicing and quality units are essential to protect from colour differences should a single unit need to be changed out.

Sometimes daisy-chained together and managed by the first in the chain, sometimes using a separate hardware controller and sometimes networked with a software control app, the source can be a simple single input, or a multitude of inputs that are displayed in different sized/shaped windows on the resultant matrix display, eg video window showing a live news channel, vertical side band showing stock market results, ticker tape on bottom scrolling daily news etc etc.

As a set of multiple professional displays, warranty is for business, education & organisational installation, usually 3 years advance swap-out but de/re-installation is highly recommended.

LCD Tile Matrix or LED Tile Display

A form of videowall but usually with hundreds of miniature tiles that can be interchanged easily by user/admin even while the image is being displayed. No need to power off first. Bezel-less tiles mean virtually invisible edges between tiles.

The smaller the pitch the higher the pixel density and so the higher the perceived quality at short distance viewing. Often used outdoors in stadia, on cinema fronts and advertising boards, high brightness and low pixel density can still provide high quality imaging at distance. For indoor use, closer viewing distance requires higher pixel density and budget and today we are installing 120”, 138” and 163” displays using such technology. A flat-pack frame system means that access isn’t restricted through doorways, stairwells and elevators, a common problem with 86”, 98” and 110” displays.

Unlike videowalls and professional displays, where warranty considerations are very significant, LCD tiles are simply handled on a return to replacement basis. Buyers are usually supplied with a 5% surplus which act as an emergency on-site pool of instant replacements and the faulty ones get swapped out to replenish the pool.

  • Descriptions and warranties have been generalised. Each manufacturer we sell, install and support will have a slightly different policy depending on grade of TV/display and intended usage.
