Most manufacturers offer a range of bars, to suit the varying sizes of meeting room. In this article, we pick out the 10 best video bars for 2025. Note that each has its own pros and what is ideal for one room might be unsuitable for another so don’t assume that #1 in our list is better than #10 if you’re considering kitting out a huddle space, for example.

What is an Android Video Bar?

A video bar is a sleek appliance that contains virtually everything you need for high quality video conferencing: a wide-angled digital camera, noise-cancelling microphones and one or two speakers.

When used as a full room system (as opposed to a BYOD webcam/audio unit), it is usually supplied with a tabletop Touch Control Panel, giving users the advantage of “one touch join” without the need to know the meeting ID or password which is automatically passed to it once the room is invited to the meeting.

Until 2025, their inbuilt Android processors were generally at Android 10 or 11, a few being Android 12, but for 2025/6 and beyond Android 13 is important. This will provide longevity of support, ongoing certification to natively connect to a cloud platform and ability to upgrade (some but not all) with AOSP or MDEP security.

Upon initial start-up, the installer is given the opportunity to natively register such an appliance with their MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, GoogleMeet or RingCentral accounts, meaning that the Touch Panel’s user-interface and feature-set reflects the certification requirement of the platform provider.

No PC, Windows laptop or Macbook required other than for users who wish to share their presentation content into a conference. This can be achieved in a wired or wireless manner depending on the bar concerned and customer policy for wires, USB dongles or WiFi connectivity..

Most Video Bars, even though natively registered with a primary platform, also provide a temporary BYOD mode, where the in-built Android processor is bypassed and the application reverts to the desktop one of choice, running on the user’s device, whether that be wired or wirelessly connected. In this case it is operated by the user’s associated QWERTY keyboard and mouse rather than the native room’s Touch Controller.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Right Video Bar

Not all video bars are created equal.

And if you pick the wrong one, you’ll either overpay for tech you don’t need — or worse, end up with grainy video and muffled audio in your flagship boardroom.

Here’s how to make the right call.

Match the Bar to Your Room Size & Shape

A short wide room requires a wide-angled digital camera with electronic pan, tilt and zoom. A long narrow room is better equipped with an optical camera with motorised lens. The latter might still benefit from a “separates” system rather than an all-in-one video bar.

Match the Bar to your preferred desktop collaboration platform

Ask yourself: What platform does your team use the most? This is the same platform that your meeting room should be registered with in terms of its videoconferencing room system, booking panel etc.

If you’re meeting room is a shared event space or part of a serviced office, a BYOD solution will better suit its users. Platforms used may vary on a day-by-day basis and they simply wish to associate the camera and audio with their laptop and MacBook rather than involve themselves in room or VC system scheduling.

Think About Control & Scheduling

In the world of hybrid working, remote desktop users wish to book the room from home or on the road. Those in the building like to see, which rooms are in-use, free or about to be used and “book” them instantly. In some cases refreshments, lunches, car-parking etc need to be associated with their booking. Many VC control panels have a secondary purpose or variation in design to accommodate this. Keep It Clean: Mounting & Cable Management

Every bar has its quirks, so before you buy, check….

• Can it neatly mount to the wall, on top of a display, under a display without wires being visible or obstructing servicing?
• Does it come with the right brackets or do these need to be specially ordered?
• Can it be connected on Wi-Fi without losing performance, even if presentations and expansion microphones are also wireless?
• Where will you run power, network, or USB?

Futureproofing: Accessories & Expansion

Don’t just buy for today; think about tomorrow…

• Security of Android devices, and ultimately their end-of-certification and end-of-life status, will be depend of support of Android 13 with AOSP (Android Open Source Project) as a minimum. This will be enhanced to MDEP (Microsoft Eco System Development Platform) for Microsoft to re-certify devices (IP phones, VC systems, booking panels, control panels) for MS Teams and associated Azure, Co-pilot platforms and tools.
• Is it possible that tabletop microphones may need to be added to assist the quietly spoken at the rear of the room?
• Will dual or triple displays improve of the usage of the room and visibility of presentations together with audience reaction to material presented, rather than reliance on PIP on a single display.
• Is user “look and feel” to be standardised across all rooms & sites, regardless of varying meeting room sizes and shapes?

Both Meeting Boards and VideoBars are often termed “All-in-One” systems. In most cases a Meeting Board uses the same Android processor, the same camera and audio technology but comes embedded inside a custom made Interactive Whiteboarding Touch Display.

Ideally suited to teachers and training rooms where the lecturer is stood at the screen surface and presenting from the front of room to his/her audience, but less ideal for meeting rooms where participants wish to remain seated. Many though allow for a tabletop control panel to be added, allowing for a hybrid situation, ideal for collaboration and scrum rooms.

What constitutes a small room can be debated but at VideoCentric, we consider any room up with no side greater that 4m (13ft) a small one, containing 3-5 seats situated fairly close to a display screen and where the conference camera will be no more than 3 to 3.5m (10-12 ft) away from the furthest participant.

Huddle spaces are even smaller, often 2-3 seats with some bordering on a booth design for just 1-2 people equipped sometimes with an all-in-one desktop unit or touch-screen kiosk, and in other cases set up with a pre-installed display/TV for laptop users to bring their own device (BYOD) and start their own meeting (BYOM). Such rooms are typically used for HR interviews or for joining as a desktop user when sensitivity of information is high and use of an open space or hot-desk is inappropriate.

• Is your primary cloud platform Teams, Zoom, Webex, GoogleMeet or other?
• Is a secondary cloud platform sometimes used?
• Is the installation to support desktop apps on a connected laptop (BYOD mode)?
• Would you prefer presentations on a 2^nd display rather than lose participants into PIP?
• How would laptop users like to share presentations? Via direct cable or wirelessly?
• Is there any glare coming from windows opposite the display screen?
• Would you room benefit from multiple cameras, automatically “AI” selected?
• How will your new system handle recent regulations for assisted hearing?
• Are your rooms of the divisible type?

Individuals on the other hand have their personal devices running a DESKTOP version of Teams, Zoom, Google M or Webex and it is the PERSON that is invited to the conference. Usually working from home, but also from coffee shops and shared workspaces, they JOIN in the way they are already very familiar with, ie by keyboard/mouse or via a mobile app.

But what about the HYBRID worker who is returning to the office maybe a couple of days a week? He or she is more spontaneous, happy to occupy any meeting room as long as the booking system indicates that it is free but wants to take advantage of the superior camera, echo-cancelling microphones, loudspeakers and other collaborative tools already pre-installed in that room. This is where BYOD (Bring your own device) or BYOM (Bring your own meeting) comes in.

BYOD Meeting Rooms (as well as Native Room solutions) need to be designed with consideration of:-

• Room Length – this determines whether an optical or digital camera is needed to maintain focus
• Room Width – this determines whether a wide angled video bar is better than a PTZ camera or capturing those at the front of the room
• Room Height – this often determines the microphone type (ceiling, wired tabletop, wireless tabletop, wearable etc) & their positioning
• Room Acoustics – many modern offices are designed around aesthetics rather than acoustical performance and so hybrid offices will have been redesigned with resonance, soft furnishings and careful microphone positioning in mind
• Floor structure – underfloor cable routing is common in many meeting rooms but those with solid floors need wireless technologies for presentation and for BYOD camera/audio connectivity through to the user’s personal device

Getting Started with Webex:

• Recording and Sharing: Webex allows you to record meetings for future reference or for participants who couldn’t attend. As the host, you can start and stop recording at any time. After the meeting, you can share the recording with participants or download it for offline viewing.

Webex in a Room Environment!

VideoCloud™ is a trademark originally used by to brand VideoCentric’s own service portfolio. Which was launched as far back as 2007 as VIPER (Video over IP EverywheRe).

Then based on RADVision and Codian servers housed inside VideoCentric’s own Wokingham premises. It was replaced in 2010 by a rack of resilient and secure Tandberg and Cisco VCS and MultiPoint servers owned by VideoCentric and hosted in a professional data centre in Farnborough where it took on the name VideoCloud. This included multipoint SIP and H.323 hosting, an endpoint registration service, firewall traversal and ISDN & PSTN gateways, leading the way in room system and desktop interoperability.

Scalability became a challenge and so between 2011 and 2013. BlueJeans, Vidyo and Videxio Cloud services were white labelled and integrated into the VideoCloud brand. In 2017, Videxio was purchased by Pexip of Norway and so Pexip Infinity and Pexip-as-a Service became the engine behind the VideoCloud portfolio making it one of the most powerful and flexible video communications services in the world.

Although still operating today, in 2024, the days of SIP and H.323 have passed and VideoCloud is a shadow of its previous service. Overtaken by Microsoft Teams, Zoom Meetings, Google Meet, Cisco Webex and telephony orientated services from Ring Central, Zoom and 8×8.

The importance of this history is that VideoCentric’s engineers who embarked upon this 17 year ride are still on board today. And are still offering their knowledge, skills and expert consultancy and training  to customers who have a mixed estate of cloud subscriptions where Microsoft and Google CVI licences, Zoom CRC, Pexip Connect and Webex interoperability remain as important as ever, or where public sector organisations are still preferring on-premise or secure privately-hosted services rather than those in the public domain. So what does it do, and why would you want one? Here’s a quick introduction to the what’s offered by this “three-in-one” whiteboard and why it has become the most exciting new collaborative technology in the marketplace today. 1. Digital Whiteboarding

The Cisco Webex Board is a 4K digital Whiteboard that enables teams to easily white board like they are used to, and then automatically save content to a virtual space that can be accessed later on at the desktop, on a different Webex Board or on any other device that can access a Cisco Webex Teams space. It’s multi-touch, so that multiple people can use their finger or Webex Board pen at the same time, and remote participants in the meeting can whiteboard at the same time. The whiteboarding is automatically saved into the Cisco Collaboration Cloud and stored, and can be brought back up at next weeks meeting or in a different room to continue on where the team left off.

Interactive whiteboarding isn’t a new technology – SMART have been doing it for years – but it’s how Cisco are doing it that is turning heads. Whatever device you are connected with, you can join in with the whiteboarding – from your tablet in the meeting space, from your desktop as a remote participant… everyone can draw and collaborate on a blank canvas together, wherever they are located, and pick up where they left off in a different room, at a different time. Same time next week? Simple.

The Webex Board comes with a simple Webex Board pen that can write in four colours, and the board has been designed to feel just like writing on a standard white board. It sounds like a pen when it writes too. You can be writing on the physical Webex Board, whilst another person writes within the app on their iPhone, and everyone is drawing in the same space. And coming soon will be the ability to annotate over documents and other content – fantastic for markups, diagrams, and those in architecture, construction, manufacturing. mapping & modelling and acoustics.

2. Conferencing Device

The Webex Board is the newest of Cisco’s Audio and Video Conferencing devices for the meeting room. Joining the SX Series, MX Series and DX Series devices, the Webex Board includes a powerful 4K P60 camera that offers intelligent camera technologies such as participant framing, to automatically optimise the area of the room that is captured. The camera picks up a great field of view, meaning you don’t need to completely rearrange your meeting space to accommodate it.

The system also includes an array of 12 microphones that automatically modulate the active speaker so that clear audio is sent to the far end of the conference, wherever the speaker is located – close or far away from the Board. This microphone array, integrated speakers and intelligent audio features provide excellent audio for your meeting and no other microphones are needed. The Spark Board has an embedded video codec, enabling the highest quality Audio and Video Conferencing calls to be made that we’ve come to expect from the world leaders in Video Collaboration.

3. Presentation Device & Content sharing

The Cisco Webex Board is an completely contained device designed to look sleek and attractive in your meeting space – fantastic for that wow factor for your presentations and sharing, both in the room and remotely.

The Board does not require any wires to share – everything is done wirelessly and shared straight from your laptop or mobile devices, enabled by intelligent Cisco Webex Proximity. Spark Proximity enables the Webex Board to automatically wake up when it detects a Cisco Webex Teams app enabled user entering the room. Wireless sharing of documents and presentations from a laptop or mobile device both in and out of a conference call via ultrasound (so no need for dongles, adapters, PIN codes etc) and control of the Webex Board through the mobile device.

The 4K UltraHD 55″ or 70″ (coming soon) screen offers a clear and crisp viewing experience for all your team’s content. (And if you really want to, you can also share via HDMI).
